Luscious cool grown blackberry, dark cherry and spice, and a medium bodied palate which is supported by a fine tannic structure. Drinking beautifully now this wine will age for up to 10 years.
In 2013 very low yields 50% of normal have resulted in great concentration. We have called this wine Syrah after the French synonym for Shiraz to reflect its cool climate nature. The fruit was handpicked from the Griffin vineyard on a warm north facing block above Kuitpo in the Southern Adelaide Hills. The grapes were destemmed and crushed into small open top vats. Fermentation with wild yeasts followed and the grapes were “on their skins” for 6 weeks before being gently pressed in our French air bag press. The wine was pressed straight to barrel as the lees help to impart richness to the wine. Matured in 1/3rd new French oak barrels for 12 months before bottling.
50 cases hand made. Bottled July 2014. Saver Glass. Screw cap.
We recommend serving this between 18-22˙C with eye fillet of beef or venison.
