Aromas of white pepper, maraschino cherry, liquorice and mocha coupled with restrained pencil shavings of French oak. The palate displays a tightly wound balance of cherry, red currant, blueberries and fresh acidity. Dusty tannins complement the finish which is dry and clean with tremendous length. We recommend careful decanting. Cellar for 15 years or more.
2010 was one of the best vintages we have seen in the Adelaide Hills for many years. Great winter rain provided a healthy lead in to spring where fruit set wasn’t interrupted by extreme cold or heat. Ripening was very even and February and March was dry without any heat spikes. This resulted in excellent fruit quality and tremendous fruit flavours. All Shiraz for The Piece was handpicked, sorted and fermented in one tonne open fermenters. ‘The Piece’ Shiraz 2010 was aged for 18 months in new and old 300 litre French oak hogsheads. A vintage for the ages, we think so!
