• Longview Yakka Shiraz 2015

Matured for 15 months in old and new French barriques, the wine displays vibrant blue fruits, spice, flavours of dark chocolate and coffee. This elegant, cool-climate shiraz is medium bodied, and finishes with a delicious vanillin length and velvety texture.

Our Yakka is as complex as the plant we’ve named it after and, whilst excellent to drink now, it will also benefit with 10+ years cellaring.

2015 produced very low yields, however what we did get was exceptional. The growing season was mild, cool and very dry which resulted in amazing quality of fruit and excellent avours at low sugar levels with intense avor and acid balance.

The Yakka Shiraz is sourced entirely from Longview’s vineyard at Macclesfield, Adelaide Hills. The fruit was hand-picked to minimize fruit damage, fermented on skins for 10 days in open fermenters. After malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged in old and new French Oak Barriques for 15 months

In The Spotlight

94 Points - James Halliday's Wine Companion 2018. "The ability of the Longview Vineyard to perfectly ripen shiraz was proved many years ago. The wine has good colour, the bouquet and palate constructed around red and black cherry fruit with sides of black pepper, licorice and a smidgeon of cedary French oak. Fine-grained tannins are a feature."

94 Points - Tony Love's Top 100 Wines 2017. "Longview's estate vineyards at Macclesfield put a bit of magic into this generous and warming shiraz that exudes a completeness and balance of dark and luscious fruit with finely spiced oak. The feel and here is full bodied yet there's no sense at all of heaviness.

93 Points - Huon Hooke. "Deep, dark, saturated red/purple colour with a rich, oaky and very ripe bouquet of blood plum, fruitcake and chocolate. Pretty smart stuff. There are cherry-cola and ripe plum to blackberry flavours, backed with ample ripe tannis. Fruit-sweet core, followed by a wall of ripe, supple tannins. Very good indeed."

4 Stars Winewise -Lester Jesberg. “The Adelaide Hills region continues to show its strength with shiraz, and this one is a good example. It’s vibrant and spicy, with good fruit weight and fine tannins.”
